Organising events

Event organisation can be a challenging task but for me, it’s one of the most satisfying and rewarding! With the right planning and preparation, you can ensure that your event is a success. I’m a certified events manager and have organised a variety of events over the years, so here are some tips to help you ensure things will run smoothly.

Set clear goals and objectives: Before you start planning your event, it's important to have a clear idea of what you want to achieve. What are your goals and objectives for the event? Who is your target audience? What kind of event do you want to organise? Having clear goals and objectives will help you to stay on track and ensure that your event is a success.

Create a detailed plan: Once you have set your goals and objectives, it's time to create a detailed plan. This should include a timeline, budget, and list of tasks that need to be completed. It's also important to identify potential risks and have a plan in place to deal with them.

Choose the right venue: The venue is one of the most important decisions you will make when organising an event. It should be appropriate for the type of event you are planning and have the necessary facilities to accommodate your guests. Take into account factors such as accessibility, parking, and capacity.

Promote your event: Once you have your plan in place, it's time to promote your event. Use a combination of traditional and digital marketing techniques to reach your target audience. This might include flyers, posters, social media, email marketing, and press releases.

Plan for contingencies: No matter how well you plan, unexpected things can happen. It's important to have a plan in place to deal with contingencies such as bad weather, last-minute cancellations, and other unforeseen events.

Hire professionals: Depending on the nature and size of your event, it might be beneficial to hire additional professionals as well as an event planner, such as caterers, and security. They will have the skills and experience to ensure that your event runs smoothly.

Follow-up: After your event, it's important to follow up with your guests and gather feedback. This will help you to identify what worked well and what areas need improvement for future events.

Have Fun!: Remember to enjoy the process, events are meant to be fun, and a memorable experience (for the right reasons!) for the attendees.
